What's biting in September

Stripers moving back up. As surface temps drop into the 70s, stripers feed more aggressively at intermediate depths. Schools become larger and more visible.

Bass feeding pattern changes. Largemouth begin feeding heavily for fall. Crankbaits and swimbaits along main-lake points and creek channel mouths.

Walleye start to fire up. Cooling water brings walleye back into more reachable depths. Trolling crankbaits 12-20 feet over points.

Crappie return to brush. After scattered summer behavior, crappie regroup on brush piles 15-25 feet down. Vertical jigging produces consistently.

Chuck’s tip

September weather is sneaky-good on this lake. Daytime highs in the 70s and 80s, mornings in the 50s. Comfortable on the water, fewer crowds, fish getting active. Underrated month.
